چکیده

The mechanism and products of the structural collapse of the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) , and upon ball-milling are investigated through solid state (13)C NMR and pair distribution function (PDF) studies, finding amorphization to proceed by the breaking of a fraction of metal-ligand bonding in each case. The amorphous products contain inorganic-organic bonding motifs reminiscent of the crystalline phases. Whilst the inorganic Zr6O4(OH)4 clusters of remain intact upon structural collapse, the ZrO backbone of the frameworks undergoes substantial distortion. Density functional theory calculations have been performed to investigate defective models of and show, through comparison of calculated and experimental (13)C NMR spectra, that amorphization and defects in the materials are linked.

Thin Film Nanocomposite Membrane Filled with Metal-Organic Frameworks UiO-66 and MIL-125 Nanoparticles for Water Desalination

Knowing that the world is facing a shortage of fresh water, desalination, in its different forms including reverse osmosis, represents a practical approach to produce potable water from a saline source. In this report, two kinds of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) nanoparticles (NPs), UiO-66 (~100 nm) and MIL-125 (~100 nm), were embedded separately into thin-film composite membranes in different...

Toward Understanding Drug Incorporation and Delivery from Biocompatible Metal–Organic Frameworks in View of Cutaneous Administration

Although metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have widely demonstrated their convenient performances as drug-delivery systems, there is still work to do to fully understand the drug incorporation/delivery processes from these materials. In this work, a combined experimental and computational investigation of the main structural and physicochemical parameters driving drug adsorption/desorption kineti...

Exploration of the mechanical behavior of metal organic frameworks UiO-66(Zr) and MIL-125(Ti) and their NH2 functionalized versions.

The structural behaviour under mechanical stimuli of two metal organic frameworks, UiO-66(Zr) and MIL-125(Ti) and their amino-functionalized derivatives has been investigated by high-pressure powder X-ray diffraction up to 3.5 GPa. All these solids showed a gradual pressure-induced reversible decrease of their crystallinity and UiO-66(Zr)_NH2 material has been revealed as one of the most resili...

Amorphous metal-organic frameworks for drug delivery.

We report the encapsulation of the hydrophilic model molecule calcein in the Zr-based MOF UiO-66, followed by amorphization of the framework by ball-milling. We show controlled release of calcein over more than 30 days, compared with the 2 day release period from crystalline UiO-66.

Electronic origins of photocatalytic activity in d0 metal organic frameworks.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) containing d(0) metals such as NH2-MIL-125(Ti), NH2-UiO-66(Zr) and NH2-UiO-66(Hf) are among the most studied MOFs for photocatalytic applications. Despite structural similarities, we demonstrate that the electronic properties of these MOFs are markedly different. As revealed by quantum chemistry, EPR measurements and transient absorption spectroscopy, the highest...
